Some teams have conditioning coaches. Some teams have skills coaches. Monk Says is the world’s first Financial Coach for a sports team.
The Coaches, Athletic Directors, Staff, and Alumni of the St Patrick – St Vincent high school of Vallejo, California have engaged Monk Says…to teach Financial Literacy to the entire boys varsity basketball team to break the cycle of broke athletes.
The team received classroom instruction on Financial Literacy topics such as stocks, bonds, insurance, D.R.I.P.’s, real estate, credit scores, market research, charitable foundations, and taxation.
Additionally, through the generous donations of the St Patrick-St Vincent alumni, Monk Says… was able to initiate the boys ownership shares of stock which will pay them dividends for the rest of their lives. So, their class instruction wasn’t hypothetical, it was reality.
The boys’ ownership stake will produce dividend checks to them for the rest of their lives (as long as the company is around). This one action will be the basis of their learning while earning adventure.
The St Patrick – St Vincent coaching staff has produced:
3 pros
3 went D1
10 went D2
4 went D3
A Coach of the Year
A Coach with back to back undefeated seasons
5 played hoop but went D1AA football
1 D1 baseball
3 D2 baseball
1 D1 Track
1 D2 soon to be pro golfer
The leadership of this division and state championship team have always believed that sports teaches more than just athletic skill. By engaging with Monk Says… they are able to teach their student athletes the lifelong skill of Financial Literacy with a belief that strengthening the mind is equally as important as a new weight room.
St Patrick – St Vincent high school is not just a sports powerhouse, they are an academic force as well. Students attend a rigorous college prep institution that has created numerous accolades – including students that receive the elusive and prestigious Questbridge Scholarship.
The Coaches, Athletic Director, Staff, and Alumni of the St Patrick – St Vincent championship high school team believed that Monk Says… would complement their program as they continue to send their players to D1 schools and pro teams. Monk Says… taught the students how to navigate income from NIL deals, professional athletics, careers, or business ownership. Ultimately, ending the cycle of broke athletes.
If we keep this up, we might even win an ESPY!
