Monk Says…A tale of a real-life Beverly Hillbilly

Beverly Hillbilly

Sarah’s Oil is the true-life tale of Sarah Rector, an honest-to-goodness story of a down-and-out person striking it rich and becoming a millionaire!

Horatio Alger couldn’t craft a better story of how Sarah Rector struck black gold in what the United States thought was a barren wasteland.

It was during my pilgrimage to Tulsa, Oklahoma— the home of Black Wall Street —that I first learned about Sarah Rector.

My tour guide imparted more knowledge to me and my nephew in 2 days than I had gathered from years of reading.

Part of that knowledge was how Sarah Rector was so rich, she made more in one day, than most Americans at that time made in 20 years.

Of course, the movie Sarah’s Oil has been fictionalized for entertainment purposes, but the broad strokes are 100% true.

See the movie, then dig into her story.

Visit her house in Kansas City.

And while you’re in Kansas City have some barbecue from Joe’s BBQ. Joe’s is always my 1st stop when I get to the Midwest. It is THE best barbecue in Kansas City.

Now, let the BBQ wars commence!
