In 1987 Reginald Lewis, with the help of Michael Milken, used a specific type of bond to purchase food conglomerate Beatrice foods for $985Mill – later re-naming the company TLC Beatrice.
Effectively, it was a $Billion dollar deal. It was also the largest deal ever (up until that point). This deal also ushered in the $Billion dollar deals that are commonplace now.
As spoken about before, bonds can be used to acquire financing for business & civic projects.
Bonds are a great way to shelter cash from the volatility of other investments. You don’t get wild fluctuations, only consistent payments.
